Skylight Installation & Repair FAQs
Most skylight leaks are re-patched with caulk rather than properly re-flashed. Caulk around a skylight seam fails within 1–3 years as the roof and skylight frame expand and contract with temperature. The correct repair is to remove the surrounding shingles, install the manufacturer's step flashing kit with integrated curb flashing, and reinstall the shingles over the top. This is a more involved repair but the only one that truly lasts.
